Price's Equalizer Helps Catholic to Draw Against Marymount

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — The Catholic women's soccer team looked to pick up back-to-back victories on Wednesday afternoon as they welcomed Marymount (Va.) to Carlini Field for a Pope's Cup match up. After falling behind 1-0 in the opening half, the Cardinals bounced back in the second to score an equalizing goal that would lead to a 1-1 draw against the Saints.

Despite out-shooting the Saints 13-4 in the first half, the Cardinals did not find the back of the net with Mara Dufour making seven first half saves for Marymount. After a corner was won by Marymount, Dina Abdeen stepped up to the spot and curled a shot into the top right corner of the goal to put the Saints on the board with a 1-0 lead.

Catholic generated two more shots, one of which was on goal, in the final eight minutes of the half but the score remained 1-0 heading into the halftime break.

It took the Cardinals just over 10 minutes into the second half to find the match tying goal after a free kick was won in an attacking area for Catholic. Teighan Boyle lined up over the ball and played a pass right in the middle of the 18-yard box to create a chance for Kelsie Price. Price smashed a header into the right side of the goal past the keeper to level the score at one.

Both teams stepped up defensively throughout the rest of regulation and prevented any more goals from going in and the match closed at 1-1. The Cardinals are now 2-2-1 on the season after the draw.

Price's goal was her first of the season and second in her career at Catholic with Boyle supplying her second assist of the season and fourth in her career. Boyle has now recorded at least one point in back-to-back matches. For the game, the Cardinals out-shot the Saints 22-10 and put four more shots on target.

Madelyn Catania made her first start in goal of the season, third in her career, and came up with five saves which is a new career-high. She along with Boyle and Alex Berish played the full 90 minutes for the Cardinals in the draw.

Catholic begins a four-game road stretch on Saturday, September 13 when they take on Gettysburg. Kickoff is set for 6 pm at Clark Field against the Bullets.
