2025 Catholic Women's Soccer Season Preview

TOWSON, Md. — The Catholic women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Landmark Conference this season in this year's preseason poll, it was announced today. The Cardinals are coming off an 8-7-4 season and came just four points shy of Lycoming for the second place spot in the poll.

The Cardinals recorded 12 clean sheets last season while only allowing eight goals through the season, which was the second lowest in the Landmark. Catholic finished 4-3-2 in conference play to earn the fifth-seed in the conference tournament but fell to Drew 2-1 in the First Round. 

Casey Sommers enters her fifth season as the head coach of the program ahead of 2025. Under Sommers, the Cardinals have reached the Landmark Conference tournament each of the last three seasons, including making it to the championship game in 2023.

All three of Catholic's All-Landmark selections from last season return for the 2025 campaign. Isabel Doherty returns as a USC All-Region selection from last season after leading the team in goals (5) and points (11). Peyton Coron returns to help the Cardinals attack as well after leading the team with three assists last season, adding two goals. Ava Gregorio and Alex Berish also return as players who contributed three goals last season. 

Ava Rieger returns in goal for the Cardinals as a 2x All-Landmark selection after earning second team honors last season. She finished 7-7-4, making 56 saves with a save percentage of .848 and 11 shutouts. Catholic returns several defenders from a solid back line last season including Berish, Sam Cesario and Teighan Boyle

Scranton topped the poll as the unanimous favorites to repeat as conference champions receiving the nine possible first place votes. Lycoming, Catholic, Elizabethtown and Moravian rounded out the top five with Lycoming receiving the other possible first place vote.

The season kicks off for Catholic on Friday, August 29 at 6 pm against Franklin and Marshall at Carlini Field.
