WASHINGTON, D.C. - Head Athletic Trainer Emily Condello announced the hire of Matejka Abeita as Assistant Athletic Trainer effective August 4.

"I'm excited to bring Matejka on board with our staff and more importantly into our athletics program," said Condello. She has shown an energy and attitude that will bring a new spark to the Dufour Center. Her previous experience with high-level men's lacrosse programs offers new opportunities to better our care to our student-athletes here at Catholic."

Abeita was a 2023 graduate of Lakeland University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and 2025 graduate with her Master of Science in Athletic Training at Marquette.

During her time as a student, she worked with both the University of Notre Dame Sports Medicine and Marquette University Sports Medicine programs during her time as a student at Marquette. While with Marquette, she worked with Marquette's women's volleyball, men's lacrosse, men's basketball, and men's and women's tennis programs. 

More recently, she worked primarily with the Notre Dame men's lacrosse, performing and aiding in injury evaluation, rehabilitation, decision making, and referrals. 

As an undergraduate, Abeita was a member of the Lakeland women's volleyball team while also working as an Athletic Training Student as a senior. 

"I'm super grateful and excited for this opportunity to join the sports medicine team and get to work here at Catholic," said Abeita.
