BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Catholic softball defeated Susquehanna, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Landmark Conference Championship Series versus top-seeded Moravian. The Cardinals held the lead late, but the Greyhounds rallied to take game one of the series, 5-4.Â
GAME ONE - Catholic 4, Susquehanna 2
A
Katie Scolese two-run homer and a dazzling performance in the circle from
Aubrynn Arcement led the Cardinals to a 4-2 victory over Susquehanna.Â
Sam Grillo had two hits, including a double, to help join Scolese in pacing the offense in the victory.
Katie McHugh also added an extra-base hit for Catholic.Â
In the circle, Arcement tossed a complete game, allowing two unearned runs, and striking out four to earn her 10th victory of the season. Arcement needed just 90 pitches to complete her 11th game of the season.Â
Amanda Gomez and Grillo opened up the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles. With two outs and Gomez on third,
Olivia Stinchcomb was struck out by Brianna Jones, but the third strike was dropped by catcher Grace Landis allowing Gomez to race home to score while Stinchcomb reached first safely.Â
After a handful of scoreless half innings, Catholic pushed two more across the plate in the bottom of the third. After Jones punched out Gomez, Grillo laced her ninth double of the season to left. On the first pitch of the ensuing at-bat, Scolese connected, sending the ball sailing over the wall in left for a two-run shot and a three-run lead.Â
Susquehanna scratched one across in the fourth, getting an RBI single from Savannah Patrone after a passed ball allowed Katelyn Dugery to move up to third. Arcement would induce a lineout to end the inning with a 3-1 lead.Â
In the bottom of the fourth,
Amy Gastright drew a lead-off walk against new pitcher Hannah Foust, stealing second and advancing to third on a ground out. McHugh came up and drove in Gastright with her fifth double of the season to make it 4-1.Â
After a pair of errors put runners on first and third, Jones drove in Susquehanna's second run with a single to left. Arcement worked out of the jam with limited damage and sent the game to the bottom of the fifth with Catholic ahead 4-2. Jones would double in the top of the seventh with two away, but Arcement retired Alyssa Mayorca to conclude the contest and send Catholic to the championship.Â
CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES GAME 1 - Moravian 5, Catholic 4
Â
The Catholic Cardinals took a 4-2 advantage in the sixth inning of game one of the Landmark Conference Championship Series, but a three-run sixth inning pushed top-seeded Moravian to victory.Â
Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth inning, Catholic struck back to tie the game as Grillo remained red-hot on the day, cracking her first career home run to left-center field.Â
Sophia Colangelo tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth inning, inducing three straight ground balls to set up Catholic for a chance to take the lead. McHugh started the scoring opportunity with a one-out single back up the middle.

Sophie Maccarone went to the bench, bringing on
Gabrielle Nanni to pinch run for McHugh and

Now with two on and two out, Sarah DeStefano singled through the right side, scoring Elmore to make it 4-3. Jessica Forder found the gap in left center, scoring two runs to give Moravian the lead and the victory.Â
