WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Playing in a match that spanned two locations and was shortened to clinch, Catholic women's tennis defeated Lycoming 5-0 to earn its 12th win of the season and sixth in conference play.
The match started with doubles play at Brandon Park, but rain halted things roughly 40 minutes into the match.
Meaghan Laniewski and
Ella Knox won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles while Catholic took the win at No. 1 doubles as
Shloka Tambat and
Mairead O'Hara won by retirement after going up 4-1 to earn the doubles point.
Moving inside to the Central PA Tennis Center after 6:30 p.m., the match was played with eight-game pro sets. The Cardinals swept No. 1-4 singles with Tambat, Knox, Laniewski, and
Ava Niggemeier earning victories.
Niggemeier won 8-0, Tambat won 8-1, Laniewski won 8-3, and Knox won 8-4.
The Cardinals will finish off the regular season tomorrow morning at Moravian. The women's match will start indoors at 10 a.m.
