WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic women's tennis team returned home to take on Goucher in a Landmark matchup. Despite earning the doubles point, the Cardinals dropped the match to the Gophers 5-2 for just their second conference loss of the season.
The Cardinals got the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 spot after dropping the first matchup.
Shloka Tambat and
Mairead O'Hara won the No. 1 match 6-3 after taking five of the final six games to keep the pair unbeaten in conference play this season.
Ava Niggemeier and
Ella Knox picked up the win after going to a tiebreaker. The two pairs split the first 10 points in the tiebreaker but Niggemaier and Knox took the final two points to clinch a 7-6 victory.
Meaghan Laniewski shined in her match taking both of the sets by scores of 6-4 and 6-2 to earn Catholic its other point in the match.
O'Hara found herself in a tough matchup but fell in each of the sets by a score of 6-4, losing each of the sets but just a single break of serve. The same happened to Knox in both of her sets, falling by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
The Cardinals resume conference play with a match against Lycoming on Friday, April 25 in Williamsport, Pa.. The match is set to start at 1 pm.
