Bredemann, McDevitt Shine in Catholic Victory Over Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Henley Bredemann tallied six points on Thursday evening as she led Catholic women's lacrosse to an 11-5 win over Juniata in Huntingdon, Pa. The Cardinals improved to 6-1 in the Landmark to remain second in the conference standings.

Bredemann had a hand in the first four Cardinal goals of the contest and finished with five goals and an assist to pace Catholic as its only multi-goal scorer. After Juniata won the opening draw and scored right away, she fired a pass to an open Tori Wilsey who finished to even things up less than three minutes in. She went on to find the back of the cage herself three times in the following nine minutes, with Juniata scoring one in between. Izzy Fiore, Annie Galarza, and Maddie McDevitt assisted on each of the goals to give Catholic a 5-2 lead after one quarter of action.

Lindsay Sawyer increased the Cardinal advantage to four with a free-position goal at the 11:15 mark of the second quarter. Juniata cashed in on a women-up opportunity with 3:43 on the clock to make the score 6-3 in favor of the visitors at the halftime break.

McDevitt was fouled within the eight-meter arc and scored on her free-position attempt before Bredemann put Catholic ahead 9-3 with back-to-back goals within 43 seconds in the third. Madeline Kelly put Catholic's 10th goal of the contest on the board off a Wilsey assist with 7:14 remaining in the quarter.

Both defenses took over to close out the game as a combined three goals were scored in the last 22 minutes of action. McDevitt caused three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls within this stretch, finishing with a career-high five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Fiore, Lauren Bendo, and Clare Martin also caused turnovers in the fourth to finish with multiple disruptions on the day. Martin recorded three total while Fiore and Bendo, along with Grace Button and Jamie Handwerger, each notched two.

Maggie Traynor added one last goal with six seconds remaining to solidify the six point win. Handereger made six saves in goal to pick up her fifth win of the season.
