Fiore, Brown Pace Cardinals in Rout of Blue Jays

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Izzy Fiore and Brigid Brown combined for nine goals to help Catholic to a 24-6 win over Elizabethtown, its 11th straight against the Blue Jays. 

Elizabethtown punched first, racing out to a 3-0 lead in the first two minutes of the contest, but the Cardinals responded, scoring 24 of the next 27 goals to improve to 7-1 in Landmark Conference play. 

Fiore scored five times, four coming in a seven-goal second quarter, as Catholic built a 14-5 halftime lead. Brown scored three of her four goals in the opening quarter, matching her season total for goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. 

After Brown put home the first two goals, Jessie Lee scored her first of three goals to tie the contest at 3-3 with 11:38 to play in the first. Brown assisted on Lee's next goal, giving the Cardinals the advantage for the first time at the 6:47 mark. The lead was never given back. Brown and Elizabethtown's Megan Meyer traded goals before Tori Wilsey made it 6-4 with 3:48 to play in the opening quarter. The Cardinals would score once more in the opening 15 minutes, taking a 7-4 lead on Henley Bredemann's lone goal of the outing. 

Elizabethtown scored the first goal of the second before Catholic scored seven unanswered to build a nine-goal lead. Fiore scored four of the next five goals with Lee making it a hat trick mixed in. Caroline Regan picked up her fourth goal of the season with 1:39 to play before Madeline Kelly added the final goal of the half with 16 seconds left. 

The run continued through the third quarter as Catholic outscored Elizabethtown 6-0, taking a 20-5 and holding ETown scoreless for more than 26 minutes of action heading into the final period. Fiore and Brown scored their final goals of the contest in the first two minutes of the quarter before Kelly finished off her second of the day. Lindsay Sawyer and Reagan Laubner added themselves to the score sheet with 5:56 and 3:21 remaining respectively. Charlotte Spaulding's second goal of the season was the final goal of the period with 1:04 left. 

Lilly Milberg and Amelia Clair became the final two goal scorers of the game for Catholic with Clair scoring twice in the final period. Spaulding's second of the day was the final goal in the contest. 

Kelly assisted on three goals for Catholic while Regan added two assists. Brown, Wilsey, Laubner, Annie Galarza, Reagan Quinn, and Peyton Wozniak all added assists. 

Wilsey had an impressive nine draw controls in the win while Ariana Bransfield won seven. Wilsey and Lee each caused three turnovers while Kelly Bunnick, Caroline Gaines, Grace Button, and Clare Martin each caused two as Catholic forced the Blue Jays into 30 turnovers. Lee and Gaines each had four ground balls while Bunnick, Button, and Martin each had three. 

Catholic will complete the regular season on Saturday while celebrating Senior Day versus Wilkes. The Cardinals are in a secure spot for a bye into the Landmark Semifinals next Thursday.
