Women's Tennis Wins Two Matches, Falls to Washington College

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic women's tennis dropped a non-conference match at Washington College, 1-6, on Friday afternoon. 

The Cardinals found themselves in close contests at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles before breaking through with a win at No. 1. Shloka Tambat and Mairead O'Hara had a match point at 5-4 deuce, match point at 6-5 deuce, and were able to close it in a tie breaker.

Ava Niggemeier picked up the only point for the Cardinals with the match of the day No. 5. She and her opponent split the first two sets comfortably, forcing a third set. In the final frame, Niggemeier went up 9-7 in the tiebreak and capitalized on her second match point to secure the win.

Several Cardinals had competitive matches that ended in tight finishes. Tambat and O'Hara returned to the court for singles matches at No. 1 and No. 4 respectively. Tambat started strong by winning a tight first set, but  her opponent was able to gain momentum in the second set that helped determine the tiebreaker. O'Hara also jumped out to a 4-3 advantage in her first set before falling 4-6. Ella Knox was in the lead 5-4 before falling 5-7. 

Catholic is back on the courts tomorrow for a match against Juniata in D.C. starting at 1 p.m.
