WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic head coach
Aaron Kelly was honored regionally for the second consecutive season, earning D3hoops Region 5 Coach of the Year after a 25-6 season at the helm of the Cardinals.
Recently, Kelly picked up his 100th career victory in a Round of 32 win over sixth-ranked Randolph-Macon last weekend before winning game number 101 in the Sweet 16 against Roanoke in overtime. In six seasons at the helm, Kelly has a record of 101-42, winning nearly 71 percent of his games. After an 8-17 record in his first season with the program, Kelly has posted a record of 93-25 in five seasons, winning nearly 79 percent of the team's games.
The Cardinals posted a record of 22-5 to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament field. The Cardinals won three games, improving to 25-5 before falling to fourth-ranked Trinity (Conn.) in the Elite Eight. Catholic reached the Landmark Conference Championship for the second straight season and was selected for the NCAA postseason for back-to-back seasons for the first time since '14-15 and '15-16.
Kelly has led the program to 22 wins or more in each of the past three seasons.
