WASHINGTON, D.C. - After another 2-0 week, the Catholic men's basketball team has moved up to the 14th-ranked team in the country, it was announced in this week's d3hoops.com poll. The Cardinals have remained in the top 25 for four consecutive weeks, moving up four spots from last week's poll.
The Cardinals are staying hot early in the season, extending their record to 7-1 last week with two wins against Juniata and Wilkes. They are currently undefeated in Landmark Conference play with a record of 4-0.
CJ Ruoff has had three consecutive games with 25+ points, picking up 27 at Juniata, going 5-5 from beyond the arc against the Eagles and shooting .769 from the field. Ruoff also led the team to a 91-79 victory over Wilkes, tallying 26 points. He currently leads the squad with 175 points this season, averaging 21.9 points per game.
Brian Herbert has also been a consistent force on the court, picking up 37 points last week. He tallied 20 points in the Cardinals 86-71 victory over Juniata. Herbert also picked up 17 points, six assists and three blocks against the Colonels. He currently has the second-most points behind Ruoff, scoring 142 points this season.
Charley Hepting has continued his success in his senior season, picking up double figures in both games last week, scoring 11 at Juniata and 14 against Wilkes. Hepting is currently averaging 10.9 points per game, with a field goal percentage of .714. He has the second-most points and rebounds on the squad with 87 points and 46 rebounds.
Up next, the Cardinals will head to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Clasico. They will face off against Chicago on Friday, Dec. 19 at 12 p.m. followed by a game against Illinois Tech on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m.
