NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Catholic women's basketball team traveled over to Christopher Newport University to participate in the Nelson Hinson Classic. The Cardinals took on Maryville in the opening match and won handedly 67-46 after starting the game on an 18-0 streak.Â
The Cardinals opened up on an 18 point hot streak, stacking up bucket after bucket to end the quarter 20-6.
Amelia Kennedy led the Cardinals in the first quarter with eight points, including the game opening layup.

Anna Scoblick,
Raquel Guidetti, all added to the lead with shots in the paint.
Allie Falesto added a pair of two makes from the free throw line. The Scots stopped the hot streak with a six point streak of their own, but Kennedy answered and closed out the quarter with a layup.
The second quarter was an even run between the Scots and Cardinals, each team scoring 17 points. Maryville went on an eight point run in the early half of the second quarter credited to a pair of threes and a shot in the paint.
Alexa Kenah cut the run with a three-pointer.
Raquel Guidetti brought the Cardinal lead back to double digits with a layup, bringing the score to 31-21 with just under four minutes left in the quarter. With a little more back-and-forth action, the Cardinals closed out the half with a 37-23 lead.Â
During the third quarter, the Cardinals continued putting up boards.
Anna Scoblick opened up the quarter with a layup. The Scots answered with a jumper, but
Lauren Kraft countered with a three. Halfway through the quarter, Catania converted on a layup to give the Cardinals a 19 point lead, the highest of the game so far. Catholic closed out the quarter with two buckets in the paint, one from Guidetti and
Ella Iacone to head into the last 10 minutes up 37-23.
Catholic solidified the win in the fourth quarter, once again outscoring the Scots 10-9.
Molly McLaughlin made the most of her minutes in the quarter, converting both of her shots at the charity line. With her buckets, Catholic secured the 67-46 win.Â

Raquel Guidetti scored 12 points and collected seven rebounds apiece.Â
Amelia Kennedy scored eight points in today's matchup with five rebounds.
Allie Falesto and
Lauren Kraft both went 2-2 at the free throw line against the Scots.
Up next, the Cardinals will compete in the Nelson Hinson Championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 20th. Catholic will take on the winner of Christopher Newport and York (Pa.).
