WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic volleyball team wrapped up its regular season on Thursday night against neighboring Gallaudet University. The Cardinals dropped a four-set battle to Gallaudet at the Field House, falling 3–1.
In the opening set, Catholic fell to the Bison 25–9 but quickly regrouped. The Cardinals turned things around in set two, recording 15 kills to Gallaudet's 13 and hitting .270, a major improvement from set one. Catholic evened the match with a 25–21 win.
With both teams fighting for the lead, the third set saw intense competition. Both sides tallied 40 or more attack attempts, but Gallaudet ultimately came out on top with five service aces and 17 kills, taking the set 25–19.
The Cardinals battled to stay alive in the fourth, notching 13 kills to the Bison's 11 and 39 attack attempts to their 29. However, Gallaudet was strong defensively, putting up four blocks in the frame to close out the set 25–22.
Although the Cardinals came up short, they put up a strong fight.
Julia Raab led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs.
Juliette Cummings added eight kills and three blocks, while
Alejandra Garcia paced the defense with nine digs and three service aces.
This match concludes the Cardinals' regular season, bringing them to an overall record of 13–14. Catholic will return home for postseason play in the Landmark Conference First Round on Tuesday, November 11, when the Cardinals host sixth-seeded Elizabethtown at 7 p.m.
