WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Catholic men's basketball team looked to pick up consecutive conference wins to start Landmark play when they traveled to take on Lycoming on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals controlled the flow of the game from the opening tip and came away with a dominant road win, defeating the Warriors 82-49 to improve to 4-1 on the young season.
Catholic asserted control early in the game in the first half, grabbing control early, building a commanding lead through balanced scoring and efficient shooting. The Cardinals knocked down five threes in the opening half, two came from
Googie Seidman with the others coming from
Brian Herbert,
Ryan Pegg and
Peter Gellene. On the flip side, Lycoming was just 7-for-26 (27%) from the field in the opening half and were unable to keep up with Catholic as the Cardinals were able to take a 39-21 lead into the break.
The three point shooting remained a strength for Catholic in the second half as they shot 8-for-14 (57%) as a team to continue to pour it on Lycoming. The Cardinals also continued to dominate on the glass throughout the second half, ending up with a rebounding margin of 47-23 throughout the game to help lead to the convincing 33 point win.
The Cardinals continue to control the series against the Warriors since they have joined the Landmark as the team is now 5-0 against Lycoming over the past three seasons. Catholic is now 3-0 all-time when playing at Lamade Gym.
Despite only taking five shots during the action, Seidman led the Cardinals in scoring with 13, knocking down all three triples he took, while also adding three steals, three rebounds and two assists.
CJ Ruoff and Pegg were the other Catholic players to reach double figures, each scoring 11, while Ruoff also added eight rebounds. Pegg's 11 points was the first time in his career that he reached double digit points and he also added seven rebounds.
Jamie Ntiamoah,
Charley Hepting, Gellene and Herbert also added eight points to the cause as Catholic eclipsed 80 points for the fourth time this season.
Catholic is back in action on Tuesday, November 25 for a non-conference contest against Marymount (Va.) at home. Tip off is scheduled for 5 pm at
Franny Murray Court.
