BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Catholic women's basketball team participated in game one of the Bridgewater Invitational on Saturday evening, taking on Johns Hopkins University. The Cardinals fell to the Blue Jays, 73-49.
Catholic opened the meeting strong, out-scoring the Blue Jays 17-11 in the first quarter. The Cardinals went 2-3 from beyond the arc and 100% from the free throw line to finish the quarter with a six-point lead.
Amelia Kennedy scored all of her eights points in the first quarter.
The lead changed hands only one time. With 1:30 left in the second quarter, the Blue Jays' Jocelyn Goldstein gave Johns Hopkins a one point lead via a layup bringing the score to 27-26.Â
Olivia Boccella picked up two three-pointers to total six points in the second quarter, helping the Cardinals keep the gap narrow before the halftime break.
In the second half, Catholic aimed to mount a comeback over Johns Hopkins, capitalizing on fast break points and trying to find their rhythm. The Blue Jays maintained their lead, solidifying their victory over the Cardinals, 73-49.
Carly Catania led the Cardinals with 13 points in today's match, scoring more than she did in her first match as a Cardinal.Â
