TOWSON, Md. - Senior goalkeeper
Ava Rieger was named Landmark Conference's Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week after impressive performances this week against both Susquehanna and Scranton. This marks Rieger's first honor of the season and the third athlete of the week honor of her career.
Rieger kicked off the week strong against Susquehanna. The Cardinals defeated the River Hawks and Rieger picked up five saves and another shutout victory, extending her record to 7-6-1 this season.
During the second match up of the week against Scranton, Rieger had a season-high 12 saves, holding the Royals to no goals, ending the game in a draw. This marked her sixth shutout of the season and brought her to 50 saves this season.Â
Rieger currently sits at second in the Landmark Conference in goals against average with only 11 goals against her, averaging .786 per game. She is currently tied for second in the conference in total shutouts with six, averaging .400 in shutouts per game and she is also second in the conference in save percentage with a percentage of .820.
The Cardinals return to Carlini Field for their final match up of the regular season against Juniata on Tuesday, October 28th. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
