Women’s Basketball Ranked #19 in D3Hoops.com Top 25 Preseason Poll

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic women's basketball team is starting off the season ranked 19th in the D3hoops.com Women's Top 25 Preseason Poll after going 24-5 overall and 15-3 in Landmark Conference play in the 2024-25 season. The Cardinals received 165 points in the preseason poll, and will be looking to make another NCAA Tournament appearance after receiving an at-large bid last season.

Matt Donohue returns as head coach for the women's basketball program for his 18th season. Donohue reached 300 wins at Catholic during the 2024-25 season and picked up his eighth season with 20 or more wins. He led the team to their fifth appearance in the Landmark Conference Championship in the past six years and the team remained ranked in both WBCA and D3Hoops.com polls throughout the season.

Anna Scoblick returns to the squad after a successful 2024-25 season, leading the team with 410 points, 87 assists and 31 blocks. Scoblick also had the second-most rebounds on the team with 204 and recorded a start in all 29 games in the season. Scoblick received an 2024-25 WBCA All-American Honorable Mention and was named Defensive Player of the Season for the Landmark Conference. 

Amelia Kennedy will also return for the Cardinals for the new season. Last season, Kennedy was named to the Jamie Lynn Roberts Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team and was a 2024-25 Landmark Conference Winter All-Sportsmanship Team Selection. Kennedy was fourth on the squad with 45 assists and 47 steals.

The Cardinals have three transfer additions to the squad for the 2025-26 season: McKenna Karlson, Carly Catania, Alexandra Falesto. The team also welcomes six freshmen: Gabrielle Johnson, Annalise Kubasko, Ryan Burden, Juliana O'Down, Bridget Archbold, and Brooke Kroptavich

The Cardinals season tips off on the road in Winchester, Va. against Shenandoah. The 2024-25 season kicked off in similar fashion, with a win for the Cardinals over the Hornets, 67-61. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
