Evan Chromy was named Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, it was announced today. Chromy becomes the first Catholic player to earn the award this season.
Chromy spearheaded the Cardinals defensive efforts in a 20-17 victory over Juniata on Saturday, the team's first conference win of the season. He recorded a season and career-high 13 tackles, six of which were solo in the victory. Chromy also finished with 1.5 tackles for loss and had his first forced fumble of his career. Catholic held Juniata to just 3.9 yards per play in the win and just 104 yards through the air.
Chromy is the leading tackler for the Cardinals this season, despite missing a game, with 47 tackles, 20 solos and 27 assisted. His 47 tackles are the seventh-most in the Landmark thus far this season, just nine shy of the conference's top tackler. He is also tied for fourth in the conference in tackles for loss with 6.5 which also leads the team and he also paces the team in sacks with 1.5.
The Cardinals next matchup is Saturday, October 18 for another Landmark contest against Moravian on Cardinal Weekend. Kickoff is set for 12 pm on Cardinal Stadium.
