WASHINGTON, D.C.  — The 18th ranked Catholic women's basketball team returned home for the first time in 2025, welcoming in conference foe Drew to try and push its season-long win streak to nine games. A sharpshooting fourth quarter in which the Cardinals outscored the Rangers 26-8 allowed the team to pull away to a comfortable 78-49 win over Drew to keep pace in Landmark play at 5-1.
Another fast start allowed Catholic to get out to an early double-digit advantage at 20-7. The three ball was falling early with
Carly Mulvaney knocking down two and
Kerry Flaherty also adding one to help take hold of the first quarter.
Anna Scoblick also got going in the paint from the tip with a quick six points during the Cardinals run. Drew came up with some answers towards the end of the quarter and went on a 7-0 run to close out the frame to get the deficit back down to six, capped off by a three from Olivia Aliotta with just 10 seconds remaining.
The Rangers continued its strong form to begin the second quarter and trimmed the deficit all the way down to one at 24-23 after a layup from Amy Rachilla. The Cardinals responded with a 13-0 run to swing momentum back in its favor where
Alexa Kenah, Mulvaney and Flaherty all knocked down three's and
Keegan Douglas scored on a fastbreak lay-in. Drew scored the final five points of the half to remain in striking distance at 37-28 going into the half.
After Drew hung around for the third quarter, Catholic was deadly from three-point range in the final quarter, shooting 5-for-6 as a team in the early stages to take complete control of the contest. Flaherty started off the quarter by knocking down her fifth triple of the game, then the Cardinals proceeded to make three's on four straight possessions, two coming on back-to-back possessions from Douglas, which opened up a 20 point lead that would grow to a 29 point win for the squad. Catholic also held Drew to just 3-for-12 (25%) from the floor in the fourth, which was its lowest in a quarter during the game. The 78-49 win moved the Cardinals to 12-1 on the season and advanced their win streak to nine games.
All five Cardinals starters ended with double-digit points, led by Mulvaney with 18 while going 4-for-7 from three and also tallying eight points and six assists. Flaherty tied a season-high in three's made with five, which is the sixth time in her career she has made five or more triples in a game. Scoblick also impressed with 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Kenah had a career day with the first double-double of her career, totalling 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also had career highs in assists and blocks with seven in each of those categories. Her seven blocks were the most by a Catholic player since Lauren McPeak against Frostburg State in 2008.
Catholic continued its run of hot shooting from last time out, tying a season-high with 14 made three's while shooting a season-high 56% from downtown to drive the team to victory. The team's defensive prowess continued as well, holding Drew to just 30% from the field, which makes it nine straight games of holding opponents to 36% or less from the field.
The Cardinals are back at home again on Wednesday, January 15 when they welcome in Juniata to
Franny Murray Court. Tip off is set for 6 pm.
