Comeback Led by Bond Gives Cardinals 3-2 Win Over Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Catholic University field hockey team picked up its second win of the season thanks to a comeback effort led by Oli Bond. The Cardinals found themselves down 0-2 midway through the third quarter but fought back with three unanswered goals defeat Dickinson in a 3-2 victory.

The rookie had a standout performance in her second collegiate contest. Bond put Catholic on the board with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter and helped the team take the lead with just over eight minutes left in the game. The first came shortly after Dickinson inserted the ball on a penalty corner. Catholic was able to interrupt the set and reverse the ball up field for clean offensive opportunity. Lauren Keast played a perfect pass and Bond was able to finish. The second saw much of the same as Bond once again gathered a pass from Keast and fired the ball on target

Niki Micciche was the other goal scorer for the Cardinals. The senior knocked an unassisted shot to the back of the cage for her first of the season and 28th of her career. Keast's two assists bolster her impressive start to the season. The sophomore, who buried two goals in the team's overtime win against Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, now has four points on the year. A season ago, Kesat did not record her first point until the sixth contest of 2023.

Micciche and Keast have now contributed to goals in two of the first three contests. Bond joins Keast as the team's leading scorers with two apiece.

After a scoreless first half, The Red Devils took the lead with back-to-back goals in the third quarter. Alexandra Hockwitt pulled Dickinson ahead by one after her teammates disrupted a penalty corner inserted by Catholic and streaked down the field towards the cage. The Red Devils extended their lead eight minutes later when Megan McClure slide one past the Cardinal defense after another quick transition in the midfield.

Catholic recorded 15 shots in the game, eight of which were on target while Dickinson got 12 shots off with six on target. Abigail Kearney recorded four saves across the 60 minutes while opposing goalkeeper Taylor Morrow denied five.

The Cardinals are now 2-0 all-time versus the Red Devils. In their last match up back in 2022, Catholic picked up a 1-0 overtime win on the road.

Catholic welcomes Bridgewater to Washington, D.C. on September 11 for a midweek contest. The non-conference game is set to start at 6 p.m.
