Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Joey Madore

Late Breakthrough Leads Lynchburg Over Catholic

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Catholic men's soccer team continued its four-game road trip on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Lynchburg. After 80 minutes of strong defensive soccer, the Hornets broke through with a goal that would go on to be the match winner in a 1-0 loss for the Cardinals.

Chris Wiley scored an unassisted goal in the final 10 minutes of action to be the difference in the contest. It was Wiley's second goal of the season and he leads the Hornets in that category.

The Cardinals were out-shot in the contest 8-3 and only put one shot on target in the match.

James Pickeral made his second straight start in goal and made one save which was his fifth of the season.

Along with Pickeral, Liam Giblin, Owen Maher and Mudi Jagha all played the full 90 minutes for the Cardinals. The loss brings Catholic's season record to 2-5.

The Cardinals conclude their four-game road trip next weekend when they head up to Moravian for their first Landmark Conference match of the season. The match is on Saturday, September 28 and will kickoff at 3:30 pm.
