NEWPORT NEWS, VA. — The Catholic men's soccer team attempted to get back in the win column after falling in its first game in a four game road trip on Saturday against Christopher Newport. Despite having more shots than the Captains, the Cardinals were unable to crack the scoresheet and fell to Christopher Newport, 2-0.
After a stalemate throughout most of the first half, Christopher Newport broke through in the closing minutes of the first half. Zach Ruhlman received a cross from Jason LaViola from the left side and was able to tuck it away past the keeper to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals were unable to find an equalizer throughout the second half despite having seven shots in the second half, and the match was put away with just under five minutes left when Zuhlman scored once again on an assist from Yazan Yaghmmour to make it a 2-0 lead, which stood for the rest of the match.
Despite outshooting the Captains, the Cardinals only put two shots on goal to the Captains five shots on goal.

James Pickeral all played the full 90 minutes for Catholic in the loss. The Cardinals fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss.
Catholic is back in action on Saturday when they head back to Virginia to take on Lynchburg. The Cardinals will square off with the Hornets on Saturday, September 21 with kickoff set for 2 pm.
