Micciche, Shallow Score in Loss to Washington & Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. - Despite tying the game twice, Catholic (2-3) fell 4-2 at Washington & Lee (4-1) on Saturday afternoon. Niki Micciche and Emma Shallow both scored for Catholic in the losing effort. 

After nearly 27:30 of scoreless play, the Generals took a 1-0 lead as Anne Burns Fiveash scored off an assist from Cecilia Hartford with 2:33 to play in the first half. Catholic answered back right at the buzzer, sending the game into the halftime break tied 1-1 as Micciche scored her second goal of the season off an Oli Bond assist. A senior from Winchester, Mass., Micciche now has 30 career goals, good for 11th in program history. It was the first career assist for Bond who scored her first two career goals in a recent win at Dickinson. 

Washington & Lee responded 3:32 into the third quarter as Sydney Baggett put them ahead 2-1, a lead they would hold into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth, Shallow tied the contest once more just over 90 seconds into the period with Sophia Conners picking up the assist. It was the third career goal for the senior Shallow and first since 2022. Conners' assist was the third of her career. 

With less than eight minutes to play, the Generals took a 3-2 lead with a goal from Jenna Bernstein before adding in one final goal from Betty Boatwright with 35 seconds left to play. 

Both Abigail Kearney and W&L goalie Julia McDonald finished with two saves in the match.

Catholic remains on the road, heading to New Jersey to take on Rowan on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
