Cardinals Close Out Series Sweep of Lycoming on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic completed a 5-0 week with a 16-7 victory over Lycoming as it celebrated Senior Day on Sunday. The Cardinals win streak is now seven games as they improve to 29-9 on the season with two games left in Landmark play.

The Cardinals turned 15 hits and seven walks into 16 runs on Sunday afternoon with massive days at the plate once again from Zach Burton and Logan Eilbacher. The pair combined for eight hits, nine RBI, and five runs scored.

Burton had the first of his four hits in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot to tie the contest at 2-2. Eilbacher followed with an RBI double to score Sammy Burman before scoring himself on a wild pitch to put Catholic ahead 4-2 after one inning.

Lycoming tied the contest at 4-4 in the second, but Burton responded once again with an RBI double to right, scoring Matt Perlin. Leading 5-4 in the fourth, Burton added yet another RBI with a single to center, scoring Perlin again. The Cardinals would add four more runs in the fourth as they built a 10-4 lead. Eilbacher drove in two more with a double before Jesse Lacefield picked up an RBI knock.

Leading 11-6 heading into the sixth, Catholic tacked on even more insurance as Eilbacher swatted a solo homer to double up the Warriors. Later in the inning, Derek Zelesnick would drive in Mitchel Johnson with an RBI single before Jack Elwell scored on a wild pitch to make it 14-6.

Eilbacher and Perlin each added RBI singles in the seventh and eighth respectively to finish off the scoring for Catholic.

Luke Cardman picked up the win, tossing 4.0 innings in relief and striking out six. Ryan O'Keefe pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out six as well.

Burton continues an unbelievable graduate campaign as he moves up the Catholic record books in multiple categories. Burton's 15th double of the season puts him in a tie for eighth in the DIII era in Catholic history while he and Eilbacher both enter a tie for fifth in home runs in a single season with eight. Eilbacher now sits seventh in slugging percentage while Burton sits eighth.

Catholic travels to Elizabethtown for a crucial Landmark Conference contest on Monday afternoon before hosting its regular-season finale on Friday versus Scranton.
