ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Catholic fell to Elizabethtown 5-1 as both teams approach the end of the Landmark regular season. The Cardinals now sit 29-10 with a record of 16-7 in Landmark play ahead of Friday's finale versus Scranton.
Catholic scored its lone run of the contest in the first inning of Monday afternoon's game, getting an RBI single from
Sammy Burman. However, Elizabethtown responded with two runs to take the lead as Quentin Perilli drove in a run with an RBI double and AJ Bednar hit a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Jays would extend the lead to 3-1 in the fifth before Mason Woolwine put the final runs on the board with a two-run shot in the seventh.
Danny Fitzgerald got the start for Catholic, tossing 6.0 strong innings with two earned runs allowed. Fitzgerald struck out three while completing his third start of six or more innings this season. Fitzgerald lowered his ERA to 3.52 in 46.0 innings pitched in 2024.
Catholic finished the game with seven hits off of three Elizabethtown pitchers. Burman and
Jack Elwell had multi-hit games while
Derek Zelesnick doubled to record the lone extra-base hit for Catholic.
The Cardinals will finish out the regular season on Friday as Scranton comes to D.C. for a crucial contest that will likely decide which team will be the number two seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament.
