Cards Cruise to Senior Day Sweep of Lycoming

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's tennis team celebrated senior day in style with a 9-0 sweep of Lycoming on Saturday afternoon.

The squad took advantage of good vibes and perfect weather conditions to cruise to a conference victory. The Cardinals now sit at 5-4 in Landmark Conference play and have won an impressive 13 matches this season.

It was a senior day to remember for Tycho Janssen and Lucas Boyle, both of whom picked up singles and doubles wins. Janssen won comfortably at No. 1 singles and combined with Henry Ogden for a shutout win at No. 2 doubles while Boyle secured victories at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Nate Farlow's team was dominant up and down the ladder. All six of Catholic's singles players secured straight-set wins as the Cardinals lost fewer total games (11) than sets they played (12).

Diego Romo defeated his challenger at No. 3 singles at love while James Earwood joined Janssen at the top doubles position and only lost one game in his singles match at No. 2. Leyton Ramos-Platt combined with Boyle at No. 3 doubles while Charlie Robbins secured a win at No. 5 singles.

Allan Van Nostrand and Matt Rudolf were also honored on the day. Rudolf graduated in December while multiple-time all-Landmark Conference selection Van Nostrand did not feature in the match due to injury.

With one match remaining, Catholic has already clinched a spot in this season's Landmark Conference Tournament. If the Cardinals can muster a victory over Moravian and receive help around the conference, the possibility of hosting a quarterfinal match remains intact.
