MADISON, N.J. - Catholic women's lacrosse picked up a third consecutive victory on Thursday as it defeated Drew, 15-10, to improve to 2-0 in Landmark Conference play. Eight different Cardinals scored while five players put multiple goals in the back of the net for Catholic.
Catholic led a tight one, 11-9, through three quarters, but the Cardinals scored the first three goals of the final period and outscored the Rangers by three in the fourth to ice away the victory.
Lindsay Sawyer scored her second goal of the contest with 12:50 remaining in the fourth on a free-position shot to give
Meghan McDonogh's team a little breathing room. With 7:28 to go,
Caroline Regan found
Maggie Traynor as the freshman scored to record her second career hat trick. Traynor was in the mix again on the next goal, assisting on
Jill Kennedy's second of the day to put Catholic up 14-9 with 6:12 remaining. Drew scored one final time with 3:17 to play, but
Riley Martin assisted on an
Izzy Fiore goal in the final minute to close out a 15-10 win for Catholic.
Catholic led by scores of 5-2 and 8-4 in the first half, but Drew continued to trade goals, trailing 8-5 at halftime. The Rangers scored the first two goals of the third to put the pressure on, but Catholic answered with three straight of its own. Fiore scored her second of three with 9:09 remaining in the period to put Catholic ahead by two goals. Next up was Martin's second goal of the day, scoring off an assist from
Mia Perkell just 1:07 later to make it a 10-7 game. Perkell then got on the scoreboard with 5:09 to go in the period, putting Catholic up four before the Rangers popped home the next two goals heading into the fourth.
Fiore and Traynor both recorded hat tricks for the Cardinals. Today marked Traynor's first-ever four-point game as a collegian. Fiore surpassed her freshman year total of 15 goals in game number nine in 2024.
Lauren Bendo scored her first goal of the season and the second of her career in the victory while also grabbing five ground balls and winning four draw controls.
Mattea Del Peschio (4) and Regan (2) combined to hand out six assists for Catholic in a strong offensive showing.
Rachel Rubenstein joined Bendo with a monster performance defensively, causing seven turnovers and grabbing six ground balls while chipping in with a draw control.
Clare Martin also caused two turnovers in front of senior goalie
Lauren Davidson who saved nine shots and grabbed a ground ball while earning her 14th career win. In just her third season with Catholic, Rubenstein has moved into eighth all-time in caused turnovers and ninth in ground balls in Catholic history.
Next up for Catholic is a road trip to Susquehanna on Wednesday at four p.m. before returning home to start a three-game home stand.
