Izzy Fiore and
Maggie Traynor combined for six goals and three assists as Catholic won its fourth consecutive game, defeating Susquehanna by a score of 15-7 on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals improve to 3-0 in Landmark Conference play while pushing their overall record to 5-5.
Meghan McDonogh's program started hot, shocking the River Hawks right off the jump as they built a 7-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of action. Six different Cardinals combined to score the first seven goals with
Mattea Del Peschio scoring her eighth and ninth goals of the season during the run.
Lindsay Sawyer,
Madeline Kelly,
Jessie Lee, and
Mia Perkell all scored in the first quarter before Fiore made it 7-0 with 10:05 remaining in the half.
The River Hawks answered back with four consecutive goals to trim the deficit to 7-4 with 6:37 remaining in the second quarter, but the Catholic defense shut down the Susquehanna attack for the remainder of the half with Traynor scoring a woman-up goal with 1:09 left to make it an 8-4 halftime score.
Catholic put four goals past River Hawk keeper Aerin O'Brien in the first five minutes of the third quarter as it built the lead to eight.
Tori Wilsey got in on the action, scoring her 10th and 11th goals of her sophomore campaign to push the lead to 10-4. Traynor put in her second goal of the game with 10:57 to play in the third off a feed from Kelly before Fiore made it 12-4 Catholic with 10:00 on the third quarter clock. Fiore scored her third of the game with 5:39 left in the quarter with the River Hawks sandwiching a pair of goals around it to send the game to the fourth with a score of 13-6.
Despite each of the first three quarters featuring at least six goals, only three goals were scored in the final period as Perkell and Traynor each added another goal to their totals to put the cap on an eight-goal road win for Catholic.
Fiore finished the game with two assists to go along with her three goals. She has now scored three or more goals in four straight games and is the Catholic team leader with 19 on the season. Traynor continues to impress as of late, scoring her third hat trick in four games. She has contributed a goal in six straight games and has recorded a point in eight of her 10 career games played.
Lee added five ground balls and two draw controls to go with a goal and an assist while
Grace Button matched her game-high total of five ground balls.
Rachel Rubenstein was a force as usual defensively, contributing three ground balls and a game-high four caused turnovers. Rubenstein has taken over sixth place on the Catholic all-time list with 101 career caused turnovers.
Lauren Davidson made six saves in the contest, leaving her just 11 shy of 200 for her career.
Catholic will host Scranton on Saturday for a massive Landmark Conference showdown at Carlini Field. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start.
