Cardinals Drop Road Contest at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. - Five different players scored for the Cardinals in a 13-5 defeat at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 4-1 while Catholic falls to 0-3. 

Play was controlled early on by the the Diplomats as they built a 4-0 lead through 15 minutes of action. Christian Sullivan started the scoring for Franklin & Marshall just under four minutes into the contest. Mason Montrella scored two late goals in the first to put the Diplomats up by four. 

Victor Rosado broke through in the second minute of the second quarter to put Catholic on the board. Rosado restarted play after a Fitz McLaughlin shot sailed wide. Rosado beat his defender around the net and whipped an over-the-shoulder shot past Sage Garito for his fourth goal of the season. 

Tyler Merchant made four saves in the first 30 minutes of action and finished with nine saves for the contest.

After Montrella scored again to kick off the second half, McLaughlin answered with his third goal of the season in a man-up opportunity. John Hadden picked up the assist as McLaughlin brought the deficit back to five. Unfortunately for Catholic, the Diplomats would score the next three goals to extend the lead to 10-2. Matt Moore added to the Cardinal tally with 3:46 remaining in the third to make it a 10-3 game. 

Catholic added two more goals in the fourth to make it five unique goal-scorers on the day as Hadden and Brady McMahon got on the board. Hadden's goal was his first of the season and second of his career. 

Ryan Macksoud gave Catholic strong face-off play, winning 15-of-22. He added seven ground balls to lead the Cardinals. Liam O'Neil and Mike Tayloe each had five ground balls and caused two turnovers. 

Catholic returns back home for a matchup with Pfeiffer next Saturday at 1 p.m.
