RADNOR, Pa. - Despite trailing 10-6 entering the final quarter of action, Catholic men's lacrosse used a massive fourth quarter to pull out a 12-11 road win at Cabrini on Tuesday night. The win is Catholic's fourth straight after an 0-3 start to the season.
Junior stalwart
Victor Rosado scored six goals and added two assists to factor into eight of the 12 Cardinal goals in the win. Rosado scored three goals in each half of the victory, including two fourth-quarter finishes to bring Catholic within two goals.
Steven Dezelic contributed three goals and two assists, marking his fifth multi-goal effort of the season to help the Catholic attack.
As has been the case for much of the season, freshman goalie
Tyler Merchant also stood out, making a career-high-matching 15 saves to earn his fourth consecutive victory in goal. Seven different players recorded multiple ground balls for the Cardinals and
Ryan Macksoud was once again victorious at the face-off X, coming away with 14-of-23 tries.
Tied 1-1 after nearly seven minutes of game action, Rosado scored three straight goals in less than six minutes of game action to put Catholic up 4-1. Dezelic and
Mike Mulligan assisted on the second and third goals of the period for the Miami native.
Cabrini would go on to score five of the next six goals, taking a 6-5 lead on a Jason Fridge goal with 11 minutes to play in the third period. Rosado tied the game at 6-6 with his fourth goal two minutes later, but the Cavaliers went on another run, scoring the final four goals of the third.
After Rosado's fifth and sixth goals brought the deficit to 10-8 with 9:19 remaining, it was Mulligan who got on the board to bring Catholic within one with just over six minutes left to play. With 5:05 remaining,
Cullen Lotz found Dezelic who beat the keeper for his second goal of the game, tying the contest at 10-10. Rosado found Dezelic for a man-up goal with 4:25 remaining to give Catholic the lead for the first time since 4-3. Lotz scored unassisted about 45 seconds later to score Catholic's final goal of the contest, extending the lead to 12-10.
With his performance tonight, Rosado is now clear of 50 career goals, 50 career assists, and 100 career points. He leads Catholic with 28 points on the year (15 goals, 13 assists) while Dezelic remains in the goal lead with 17.
