HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Catholic men's tennis dropped Wednesday's match, 7-2, despite an impressive effort from sophomore
James Earwood. Earwood logged both victories for the Cardinals, picking up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles.
Catholic grabbed a victory at No. 1 doubles as Earwood and his usual partner
Diego Romo picked up an 8-5 win. The duo got off to a tremendous start, going up 6-1 early before holding on to take an 8-5 win. The Cardinals trailed 2-1 after the doubles session as
Charles Robbins and
Henry Ogden dropped a tough 8-4 battle at No. 2 doubles while
Leyton Ramos-Platt and
Lucas Boyle fell at No. 3 doubles.
Once again it was Earwood making the most of things at No. 1 doubles, fighting his way back to win despite dropping the first set 6-2. He bounced back with a dominant 6-2 second set before edging out the top man for the Red Devil, 10-8, in the tiebreaking third set.
Dickinson took the remainder of the singles matches despite a few tight ones. Romo (No. 2), Ogden (No. 3), and Ramos-Platt (No. 6) all won the first set before losing in heart breakers. Romo split a pair of 6-1 sets with Romano DiCaprio before losing 10-5 in the third set. Ogden also won the opening set 6-1 before dropping a couple of tight sets in the match.
Catholic will return to the courts tomorrow afternoon as they take on Shepherd at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
