Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Catholic men's tennis notched its first win of spring break with a 4-2 victory against Division II Shepherd University on Thursday afternoon.
James Earwood, Henry Ogden, and
Drew Andrianopoulos earned singles wins to
clinch the match victory for the Cardinals.
Nate Farlow's squad jumped out to a lead after the doubles session with the Cardinals getting victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ogden and
Charles Robbins combined for an impressive 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, putting Catholic up early. At No. 3 doubles,
Leyton Ramos-Platt and
Allan Van Nostrand teamed up for a 6-3 victory to push Catholic ahead 2-0 before Shepherd earned a 6-3 win versus Earwood and
Diego Romo at No. 1 doubles.
Ogden was the first to close out a match during the singles session, defeating his opponent at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7. Earwood won an absolute battle in the first set at No. 1 singles, taking the tiebreaker 9-7 to go up by a set. His opponent cramped in the second set and was forced to retire.
Drew Andrianopoulos played a strong mental match, winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles for Catholic to clinch the match victory.
The Cardinals will finish up the trip tomorrow versus Webster.
