Aaron Kelly Named District Coach of the Year, Hafemeister & Tommy Kelly Honored by NABC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jesse Hafemeister and Tommy Kelly represent Catholic men's basketball on the NABC All-District 5 teams while head coach Aaron Kelly earned Coach of the Year honors it was announced today. 

The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III. 

Hafemeister was named to the first team while Kelly was named to the second team after a pair of standout senior campaigns that saw them each surpass 1,000 career points. 

Hafemeister was named to the All-District 5 First Team after earning second-team honors in 2023. He is the fifth Catholic player to be named to an NABC All-District team twice. Kelly becomes the 10th different player in Catholic history to earn All-District honors. 

A model of consistency over his four seasons, Hafemeister was once again the leading scorer for Catholic in 2024, pouring in a career-high 490 points while averaging 17.5 per game. The Mendham, N.J. native was efficient, shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor, 34 percent from three, and 81 percent from the free-throw line. He also pulled down 5.4 rebounds per contest while setting new career-bests in assists (48) and steals (34). 

Hafemeister scored in double figures in 24 of 28 games in 2024, including 16 of the last 17 contests. He scored 20 or more points 10 times while setting a new high-scoring mark with 38 points in a road victory at Wilkes on January 20. For his Catholic career, he sits 14th on the all-time scoring list with 1,489 points while also becoming a member of the 1,000/500 club this season as he reached 547 career boards. 

Kelly, a fellow All-Landmark first team selection earns his first All-District honor after a stellar senior season that saw him average 13.5 points per game, 2.9 assists per game, and 2.9 rebounds per game. Kelly led the team with 85 assists and 42 steals. Kelly had his most efficient scoring season, knocking down 49.2 percent of his shots while connecting on nearly 43 percent of his three-point tries. Kelly moved into 40th all-time on the Catholic scoring list with 1,076 points. 

Kelly scored in double figures in 22 of 29 games, including a season-high 25 points versus Goucher as he surpassed 1,000 career points. He played some of his best basketball when the lights shone brightest, earning Landmark Tournament MVP honors after a 18-point, eight-assist, four-steal effort versus Susquehanna in the Landmark title game. He also averaged 16.5 points, four rebounds, and two steals per game in the NCAA Tournament. 

The fifth-year head man, Kelly, earns his first NABC All-District 5 Coach of the Year award after being named Landmark Coach of the Year as well. Kelly's team went 25-4, won the Landmark title for the first time in nine years, and won an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in nine years as well.
