Niggemeier Picks Up Individual Win as Cards Fall to Gettysburg

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Ava Niggemeier picked up a victory as the Catholic University women's tennis team dropped its opening match of the team's spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C, coming up short to Gettysburg on Monday morning.

Niggemeier came through in a cracker of a match at No. 5 singles, winning both sets in tiebreaks. The freshman trailed in the second-set tiebreak before winning the final four points of the breaker to take the victory, 7-6(3), 7-6(5).

Niggemeier teamed up with Mairead O'Hara at No. 1 doubles as the pair took two games off of the Bullets top pair. O'Hara fell short in a comeback attempt at No. 4 singles, dropping the contest to Eden Levkov, 1-6, 4-6.

Meaghan Laniewski also produced a strong comeback effort at the No. 2 singles position but was unable to finish off the fight back, falling 0-6, 3-6.

The Cardinals now sit at 5-4 on the season. They will enjoy an off day tomorrow before resuming for three matches in three days to close out the trip. Nate Farlow's team will battle Dickinson on Wednesday before matches with Shepherd and Webster.
