HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Catholic University men's tennis team fell to Gettysburg in the opening match of its spring break trip on Monday morning.
James Earwood was locked into an intense battle at the top singles position but eventually succumbed to Alex Kagan in the third-set tiebreak. Earwood took the opening frame in a tiebreak and was on serve at 4-4 in the second set, but after losing his service game to drop set number two, he could not overcome Kagan in the deciding tiebreak.
The sophomore teamed up with Diego Romo at the top doubles position. The duo took three games off of the top Bullets pair, as did Charles Robbins and Leyton Ramos-Platt at No. 3 doubles. Herny Ogden and Nathaniel Barish combined at No. 2 doubles to fall 2-8.
After a difficult opening set, Romo pushed hard for a comeback at No. 2 singles. He forced his opponent to the brink in the second frame but ultimately dropped the match in straight sets, 0-6, 5-7.
Nate Farlow's squad will enjoy a day off from competitive action tomorrow before gearing up for three matches in three days. Catholic will battle Dickinson on Wednesday before bouts with Shepherd and Webster.
