SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Catholic women's tennis wrapped up its fall season with a 6-1 victory over Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals went 5-1 overall including two 7-0 sweeps.
Catholic started the match with an early advantage after sweeping all three doubles matches to pick up the opening point. The Cardinals only allowed five total games in doubles play with
Mairead O'Hara and
Shloka Tambat taking the No. 1 doubles match 6-2,
Ava Niggemeier and
Meaghan Laniewski winning the No. 2 double match 6-2, and
Paige Brightwell and
Ella Knox coming out victorious in the No. 3 spot, 6-1.
On the singles court, Tambat and O'Hara continued to dominate their opponents, each only allowing one game apiece. At No. 1, Tambat put up set scores of 6-1, 6-0. O'Hara saw similar numbers, finishing with set scores of 6-0, 6-1 from the No. 4 spot.
Niggemeier and Laniewski both did not lose a game in singles. Laniewski took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 while Niggemeier mirrored her scores at No. 6.
Knox found herself in a tight first set from the No. 2 spot. She came out on top 6-4 before finding her stride in the second set to win 6-0.
The Cardinals will return to action in the spring as they continue Landmark Conference play.
