Earwood Leads Cardinals with Two Wins, Catholic Finishes Fall Undefeated

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – James Earwood won both of his matches on Saturday afternoon to lead Catholic men's tennis to a 4-3 win over Susquehanna. The Cardinals went undefeated on the fall season, finishing with a perfect 6-0 record.

Earwood paired up with Diego Romo at the No. 1 doubles spot to start the day. The duo put on a dominate performance to win 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Paulo Emanuelli and Lorenzo Neri also outplayed their opponents, picking up a victory by the same score. With two doubles wins under their belt, Catholic entered singles play with a one point lead.

Earwood added the next point for the Cardinals with his second win of the day. Playing at No. 2 singles, the junior continued to put pressure on his opponent throughout the entire match and ultimately won 6-2, 6-1.

The Rive Hawks pulled the match back even with wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 spot. Romo and Neri put up strong fights in each, but fell 4-6, 2-6 and 0-6, 4-6 respectively.

Drew Andrianopoulos followed with a victory at No. 6 singles to regain the lead for the Cardinals. He only lost one game the entire match, finishing with set scores of 6-1, 6-0. The sophomore went undefeated in the fall, winning all nine of his matches.

Susquehanna tied things up again with a win at No. 4 singles. Ben Perks put on an impressive performance in the back-and-forth match, but dropped the first set 4-6 before falling in the second by a slim margin, 5-7.

Henry Ogden clinched the match from the No. 5 spot. He started at an early 1-4 deficit before fighting back to see a score of 4-5. His opponent picked up the next game to win the first set, but Ogden secured an early lead in the second set and held on the win 6-3. In the deciding set, the junior was down 3-4, but rallied to win the final three games to win the match for Catholic.

The Cardinals have completed their fall schedule and will return to action in the spring.
