Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Catholic men's tennis team opened the 2025 season with a 6-1 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon. High winds were a major factor throughout the match, but the Cardinals prevailed to come away on top.
The Cardinals opened doubles play with two 6-0 sweeps in both the No. 3 and No. 2 matches. The No. 1 doubles pairing of
James Earwood and
Diego Romo also jumped out to an early lead but had to fight off a slight surge from their opponents to claim a 6-2 win.
With the doubles point secured, Catholic added two more to its total at No. 3 and No. 2 singles. Romo found his rhythm again to take a 6-2, 6-4 victory before Earwood followed with a three set battle, winning the final frame 6-3.
The Blue Jays picked up their first and only point of the contest at No. 1 singles. After dropped the first set,
Lorenzo Neri rallied in the second and gained a 5-2 lead but was unable to hold off a comeback from his opponent.
Henry Ogden and
Drew Andrianopoulos were the next two Cardinals to finish and both won easily. Ogden only allowed three points, recording set scores of 6-1, 6-2, while Andrianopoulos allowed just two points with set scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Ben Perks finished out the match with a three-set thriller. After winning the second set in dominant fashion, he continued to put pressure on his opponent by earning an early lead in the third set tiebreak and closing it out 10-8.
The Cardinals will travel to Hilton Head South Carolina for three matches as a part of the Spring Tennis Fest.
