SCRANTON, Pa. - Catholic volleyball dropped both matches against a pair of tough opponents in Saturday's tri-match hosted by the University of Scranton.

MATCH 1 - Catholic 0, Scranton 3

The Scranton offense proved to be too great a force for Catholic on Saturday, hitting .416 in the three-set victory. The Cardinals were strong in service, totaling five aces to just three service errors, but hit just .141 offensively with 20 kills.

Grace Guerin and Julia Raab had five kills each for the Cardinals while Guerin had a pair of solo blocks for the Cardinals.

Brynne Burgess was lethal in service, posting four aces for Catholic. Defensively, Gaby Hernandez-Ferraiuoli led the team with 13 digs.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 9-7 lead in the second set and were tied with Scranton 14-14 after an Ava Borcky kill, but the Royals took 11 of the final 14 points to jump ahead 2-0.

The Royals used a 6-0 run in the third set to put things out of reach at 17-7 before finalizing the three-set victory.

Kassidy Means led the Royals with 14 kills while Katherin Denitz and Erin Keaveney each had 11 kills.

MATCH 2 - Catholic 0, Springfield 3

In a match similar to the first of the day, the Cardinals didn't have an answer for the Pride attack as Springfield hit .344 with 42 kills while Catholic hit .119 with 22 kills. Guerin and Laci Freitas had five kills each for Catholic while the Cardinals once again totaled five service aces.

Anna Maria Carella had three of the team's five aces while adding seven assists as well. Guerin added 2.5 blocks defensively while Hernandez-Ferraiuoli went over 400 digs on the season with 11 in the second match.
