Catholic Continues Its Winning Ways at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - 9th-ranked Catholic jumped out to a 26-10 first quarter lead on the way to its 17th straight victory on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals defeated Wilkes 80-39 to kick off the second half of the conference season.

Anna Scoblick scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, continuing a red-hot stretch with 17 points and seven rebounds in just 22 minutes on Saturday. Sarah White was tremendous, especially early, scoring 13 of her 16 points in the first quarter. She finished with 16 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes.

Leading 9-6 after a Scoblick layup, Catholic scored the next 12 points via the three-point shot as Kerry Flaherty hit a three to make it 15-6 before three straight triples from White over a 56-second span. Amelia Kennedy hit two free throws to put Catholic up 24-9 with less than 30 seconds left in the quarter before White added one final bucket to give Catholic a 26-10 lead at the end of one.

The Cardinals built the lead to 21 points as Tori Fernandez hit a jumper in the final 10 seconds of the first half to make it 42-21 in favor of Catholic. Catholic's lead reached 20 for the first time at the 4:10 mark of the second quarter as White nailed her fourth three of the half. Scoblick pushed it to 22 with 2:47 to play in the half, tying Catholic's largest lead of the first 20 minutes.

Leading by 24 entering the fourth, Catholic quickly pushed the lead up to 34 after Angelina Dragone scored to finish off a 10-0 run. Two Anna Melchionni jumpers pushed the lead to 40 points for the first time before Ella Iacone's bucket gave Catholic its biggest lead at 80-38 with 1:32 to play.

Kennedy followed her career-high 14-point effort on Wednesday with 11 points and four rebounds this afternoon. She has scored 10 or more points in three of her last six games. Dragone scored a career-high eight points, converting on four of her five shot attempts. Carly Mulvaney's streak of three straight games with double digit points ended, but she grabbed 10 rebounds for the third time this season.

Catholic's 57 rebounds were a season-high as the Cardinals pulled down 19 offensive boards and 38 defensive rebounds. The Cardinals also increased their scoring margin to 20.9 points with the victory.

Matt Donohue's program will hit the road on Wednesday, looking for an 18th-consecutive victory at Susquehanna.
