Three Different Cardinals Score, Catholic Wins 3-0 Over Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three different Cardinals scored in Saturday afternoon's contest as No. 20 Catholic University field hockey earned a 3-0 victory over Moravian. The Cardinals improve to 2-0 in the conference and 5-2 overall with the victory.

Mary Parker played a standout game on the offensive end for the Cardinals, assisting on all three goals and serving as a key passer on Catholic penalty corners.

The Cardinals started the game hot with a goal less than one minute into the contest. As the visiting team, Catholic took the opening pushback and began to organize their offense. They quickly pounded the ball into the 25-meter arc and earned a penalty corner. Kellie Caputo inbounded the ball to Parker who settled the pass and swung it over to Carly Bateman. Bateman fired a shot past the Greyhound defenders and into the left corner of the cage, giving Catholic an early 1-0 lead.

The second goal of the contest looked a lot like the first but in front of the opposite side. Caputo again inserted the ball to the top of the arc and this time it was passed to the left by Parker. Mary Rojack took a strong whack that found MaryKate Ardizzi in front of the cage for an easy tap in. Catholic remained on top 2-0 going into halftime.

The high intensity and energy from the Cardinals continued into the second half. Two minutes after play resumed, Catholic struck again. This time it was Niki Micciche's turn to redirect a pass from Parker. A few passes between the Cardinals just beyond the penalty spot drew the attention of the Moravian defense. With her opponents distracted, Micciche snuck in front of the goal and was wide open for her fourth goal of the season. Micciche's goal leaves her just two shy of 25 for her career.

The Catholic defense didn't see much action as Moravian only took six shots and logged just six penalty corners throughout the contest. They made important stops when the ball came past midfield and worked well as a unit to make sound clears up the sidelines.

Catholic will face its fourth-ranked opponent of the season on Wednesday as the Cardinals travel to Salisbury to face the No. 6 Sea Gulls at 6 p.m.
