WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the eighth time in the last 11 meetings, Catholic football has defeated McDaniel, as the Cardinals rolled to a 34-7 victory on Friday night in front of a great crowd at Cardinal Stadium.
Madden Lowe threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns in his return to the gridiron, finding
Preston Jeffrey five times for 177 yards and two scores including a 93-yard touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Friday night marks a new career-high in receiving yards for Jeffrey and gives him his sixth career 100+-yard game. He now sits just 118 yards shy of 2,000 for his career.
Catholic opened the scoring with 8:38 remaining in the first quarter as
Malachi Hansen made an acrobatic grab in the end zone to pull in a 10-yard pass from Lowe to put Catholic up 6-0. Catholic forced a three-and-out on the next drive to set up Lowe who took the Cardinals 64 yards on nine plays, finding
John Maynes for a 12-yard score with 3:35 left in the quarter. Lowe threw for 91 yards and a pair of scores in the first 15 minutes as the Cardinals jumped out to a 13-0 lead.
The Cardinals added another score in the second quarter, as Lowe found Jeffrey for a four-yard score with 8:48 left in the first half.
Coby Oxendine opened the drive with an 18-yard run into McDaniel territory. Lowe found
Andrew Tabor for 14 yards before hitting
Anthony Giordano for a 32-yard gain to the three-yard line. After a sneak was snuffed out, Lowe found Jeffrey for the touchdown.
Catholic took over possession with less than a minute to go in the first half from its own seven-yard line. On the second play of the drive, Lowe dropped back and found Jeffrey down the near sideline. Jeffrey made a defender miss and cruised down the field for a 93-yard score, putting Catholic up by 27.
In the third quarter, Lowe found freshman
Nole Henry for an 18-yard score to put the final score on the board in a 34-7 victory. Micajah Cobbs ran for a 12-yard score late in the third quarter to break the shutout for the Green Terror.
Tabor added 78 yards in his Catholic debut while Henry finished with four catches for 37 yards and a score. Defensively,
Luke Brautigan and
Michael Hopkins each made nine stops while
Phillip Walter made eight tackles, added three TFLs, and picked up a sack.
Sean Holt picked up his first career sack and
Mason Stillwell picked off a pass for the Catholic defense.
In three career games against McDaniel, Lowe has now thrown 12 touchdown passes with today marking the second five touchdown game for him against the Green Terror.
