Fearwell Fantastic as Catholic Opens Up Indoor Track Season

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Catholic junior Jevontae Fearwell set the program record for the 60-meter dash twice on the day, ultimately setting the new mark at 6.91 seconds as he sprinted to victory at the TCNJ Indoor Open on Saturday. 

Fearwell and classmate Samuel Compton dueled to a draw in the preliminary run, tying at 6.99 seconds as they each qualified while breaking the previous program record of 7.04 set by Sebastian Lopez in 2022. Fearwell held the edge in the final, outracing Compton who came in at 6.94 seconds to placed second in the event. 

Fearwell also had a strong showing in the 300, running a time of 35.28 to place eighth in the event, breaking Rob Novak's previous mark of 36.49. 

Chilowe Osai started the season strong, placing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72, just shy of his own program record of 8.69. Osai qualified with a time of 8.75 before improving in the final. 

Dylan Stefans and Conor Gross stood out in the distance events for Catholic, each placing sixth in their respective races. Stefans ran the 1,000 in 2:41.82 while Conor Gross ran the mile in 4:28.59. 

The usual trio of Christian Di Nicolantonio, Connor Powers, and Jordyn Walker led the way in the field events for Catholic. The junior pole vaulter won his event with a 4.90m vault while Powers and Walker finished third and fifth in the long jump with marks of 6.64m and 6.59m. Walker finished fourth in the triple jump with a 13.60m leap. 

Catholic will host the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic in Landover, Md. on January 20 as they break from competition for the semester.
