Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with an impressive victory over D.C. neighbors Trinity on Wednesday night, 93-47.
Keegan Douglas led the way for the Cardinals with a comprehensive performance. The junior dropped 20 points shooting an efficient 9-for-12 from the floor while adding four steals in 25 minutes. Douglas pushed Matt Donohue's team out of the gates quickly, dropping nine points in the opening quarter as Catholic pushed out to a 22-8 lead and never looked back.
Molly Aromando also played well for the Cardinals, reaching double figures with 10 points and leading Catholic with five assists. As a team, Catholic registered 22 assists on 38 made field goals.
Sophomore Tori Fernandez also reached double figures in a career-high performance. The 5-10 guard went 4-for-6 from the field to post 10 points while also handing out two assists and forcing two steals.
Anna Scoblick matched Douglas and Carly Mulvaney in logging the most minutes for Catholic. She played well, contributing with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Two newcomers stood out for coach Donohue. Molly McLaughlin shot a perfect 4-for-4 on her collegiate debut to put up eight points while the freshman also registered a block and a steal on the defensive end. Angelina Dragone went 3-for-4 in her debut.
As a team, Catholic shot 56.7 percent from the field while holding Trinity to just 35.4 percent. The Cardinals out-rebounded the Tigers 37-27 and forced a staggering 20 steals. Catholic saw 14 different players score on the night as Brenae Ford led all scorers with 23 for the Tigers. 
Next up for the Cardinals is the Bridgewater Tournament this weekend. They will travel to Bridgewater, Va., to face Alvernia at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday before battling the hosts on Sunday afternoon.
