WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic volleyball is set to host fifth-seeded Susquehanna on Tuesday night on Franny Murray Court in the Landmark Conference Quarterfinals. Catholic earned the number four seed and the right to host after a regular-season record of 20-11 overall and 6-3 in the Landmark. The match will be a 'White Out' - so Catholic fans, WEAR WHITE!
The Cardinals snapped a three-game losing skid on Saturday with a sweep of Ferrum to earn 20 wins in a season for the first time since 2016 when the team went 26-11. Tuesday will mark Catholic's first Landmark Conference Tournament appearance since 2018 when it fell in four sets to number two Susquehanna as the three seed. Catholic joins five other Landmark teams searching for their first conference championship this week as Juniata has won all 15 crowns to this point.Â
LAST MEETING - Catholic and Susquehanna met on October 14 at O. W. Houts Gymnasium in a match that Catholic won in four sets. Senior captain
Olivia Blondin had a standout performance on the road, racking up 18 kills while hitting .293 for the match. She also added nine digs, just missing a double-double in a crucial Landmark matchup.
Grace Guerin and
Erin Faughnan were efficient in the middle for Catholic, combining for 15 kills while hitting .467 and .316 respectively. Guerin also chipped in with three block assists.
Sydney Sheppard handed out 41 assists in the match while
Gaby Hernandez-Ferraiuoli (19) and
Izzy Steinberg (13) added double-digit digs in the match.
Amanda Gore led Susquehanna with 13 kills while hitting .429 and also contributing six block assists in the match. Susquehanna's defense gave Catholic some trouble at the net, finishing the match with 11 blocks.Â
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY - Catholic will make its 11th appearance in the Landmark Conference Championships and its first appearance since 2018. The Cardinals have five victories in Landmark Conference Tournament contests, reaching the championship match once in 2012. Susquehanna has reached the Landmark Championship game 10 times, falling to Juniata in each of those matches. The River Hawks closest opportunity came in 2015 as it took the Eagles to a fifth-set for the first time. This will be the seventh meeting between Catholic and Susquehanna in the Landmark Conference Tournament.Â
NATIONAL RANKINGS - Catholic has three individual student-athletes ranked in the top 20Â nationally in Division III statistical categories, including Blondin ranking in the top 11 in three different stats categories.Â
