Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Catholic University women's basketball team remained unbeaten after a competitive 67-56 victory over Bridgewater on Sunday afternoon.
Keegan Douglas led all scorers as the junior notched her third-straight game surpassing 20 points scored. She shot an efficient 11-16 from the floor to lead all scorers with 28 and added five rebounds as well.
Defense was the name of the game in the opening quarter. The Eagles edged out to a 15-10 lead in the cagey opening stanza that featured two separate runs of more than two minutes when neither team scored.
The teams battled evenly in the second quarter with the Cardinals shaving one point off the deficit to trail by four at the interval. Matt Donohue's team came out of the halftime break motivated to flip the script and did so with a big third quarter.
The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 20-15 to take a slim one-point lead into the final frame.
The Cardinals were dominant in the fourth, outscoring the Eagles 19-9 to turn a tight game into an 11-point victory. Bridgewater scored the first bucket of the period as Jaiden Polston gave the Eagles a one-point edge, but a 19-3 run gave Catholic a 67-52 lead with just 2:30 left after another Douglas bucket. Sarah White drilled a three to put Catholic up 13 with 3:51 left, essentially putting the game away.
Graduate transfer Kerry Flaherty set a new Catholic high in points with 14 in her third game with the Cardinals. She shot 5-12 from the floor and nabbed four steals in the contest. She was a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line.
Anna Scoblick again stuffed the stat sheet after her comprehensive performance yesterday against Alvernia. Today she scored eight points while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out two assists and joining Flaherty with four steals.
After 10 rebounds yesterday, Carly Mulvaney grabbed seven more on Sunday. Nine different players scored for Bridgewater led by Riley Corcoran's 13, but Catholic forced 26 turnovers to halt an efficient offensive performance from the field (25-55).
Catholic will take the week off from formal competition to ready for the RMC Tip-Off Classic in Ashland, Va., next weekend. The Cardinals will face the hosts on Saturday before facing Shenandoah in a neutral site contest on Sunday.
