WASHINGTON, D.C. - With a 6-3 victory against Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon, the Catholic University men's tennis team improves to 4-0 on the year.
The No. 3 doubles pairing of
Ben Perks and
Leyton Ramos-Platt started the day off with a win for the Cardinals. They did not miss a beat the entire match and won 8-0.
The Yellow Jackets evened the match after No. 2 doubles before Catholic came charging back with an exciting back-and-forth No. 1 battle.
James Earwood and
Diego Romo were in the top spot and managed to hold a break advantage until the score was made even at 6-6. They composed themselves for the final two games and came away victorious to give Catholic the advantage heading into singles competition.
Randolph-Macon stole No. 1 and No. 3 singles for their final points of the day. Perks and
Drew Andrianopoulos dominated their opponents with clinical play and picked up easy wins.
Two matches had sets that went to a tiebreak including 7-6, 7-5 wins for
Henry Ogden and 7-6, 6-3 wins for Romo. Ogden led 5-2 in each of his sets and fought off strong comeback efforts from his competitor. Romo was in it for the long haul as three single matches were completed before he won his first set in a tiebreak.
Catholic has wrapped up its fall schedule and looks to return in the spring for Landmark Conference play starting in March.
