WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's tennis team kept rolling on Sunday, defeating St. Mary's (Md.) to move to 5-0 on the season.
James Earwood and Diego Romo led the way with two victories apiece at the top of the ladder.
The duo made quick work of their opponents at No. 1 doubles (8-3) before Earwood also sailed through his match at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1). Romo faced a tougher challenge at No. 2 singles but remained composed, taking the first set by a break and then triumphing in the second set via a tiebreak.
Leyton Ramos-Platt also contributed to two wins for the team. The Sophomore combined with Nathianel Barish to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-4, before cruising at No. 6 singles, losing just one game.
Matt Rudolf grabbed a win at No. 3 singles, dropping his opponent 6-2, 6-3 while Drew Andrianopoulos played his strongest match of his young career to win at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Romo is now 9-1 on the season with his only loss coming on the doubles court. With the win, Catholic avenges last season's loss to the Seahawks.
The Cardinals will host Harford Community College on Wednesday in what is the final match on the schedule for the fall. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
