BURLINGTON, Vt. - Catholic men's basketball traveled up to Burlington for a matchup with Division I foe Vermont on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Catamounts by a score of 85-59.
Aaron Kelly's program gained valuable experience on Saturday, getting the chance to take on Catholic alum and former assistant coach John Becker's America East squad. Last year, Becker's squad won the America East and took a trip to the NCAA Tournament where it faced Marquette in the opening round.
Catholic was outscored by just four points over the final 20 minutes of the contest as it knocked down 56 percent of its second-half shots. The Cardinals hit six threes in the game with five of them coming in the final 20 minutes.
Jesse Hafemeister was outstanding in 22 minutes of action, scoring 17 points and grabbing five boards. The senior knocked down three of his four tries from distance.
Hafemeister was the only Cardinal in double digits, but 10 other Catholic players scored with
Sean Neylon contributing eight points.
Dan Buckley had six points and seven rebounds for Catholic while drilling two threes.
Enzo Sechi pulled in five rebounds and
CJ Ruoff scored five points off the bench for the Cardinals.
Catholic outscored the Catamounts in the 15 minutes that
Jamie Ntiamoah was on the court and was outscored by just one point in the 19 minutes senior
Tommy Kelly played.
The Cardinals will have one more tune-up before opening the season at home versus Mary Washington on November 8.
