Blondin Shines Again as Cardinals Sweep Warriors

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Catholic University volleyball team took home an important conference victory on Friday night, securing a road sweep of Lycoming.

Olivia Blondin led the way yet again for the Cardinals, securing 15 kills in the win. This marks the ninth-straight match in which the senior has registered 12 or more kills.

It was a quick start for Heather Stout's team as it began the first set on a 10-2 run. Blondin secured the first three kills of the match before Sydney Sheppard took over at the service line. Sheppard went on a 6-0 run by herself with two service aces.

After closing out the first frame, Catholic secured the second set 25-17. Izzy Steinberg registered two aces in the set that saw the Cardinals hit .409 as a team.

The third set remained tight for a while, with both teams exchanging points. Catholic trailed 11-9 before a 5-0 run with Brynne Burgess at the service line pushed the Cardinals ahead 13-11, forcing a Lycoming timeout. The Cardinals won two more points immediately after the timeout and pushed forward on a 7-1 run following the short break to put the match beyond a reasonable doubt.

Tanya Sichling pitched in with six kills while Erin Faughnan produced five, hitting a team-best .625. Vivian O'Brien followed up her career-high performance last time out with four kills while Claudia Morales produced nine assists.

The victory marks its fourth in a row and pushes Catholic to 6-2 in Landmark Conference play as the Cardinals are in the midst of a battle with Drew for the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. Stout's team will travel to defending National Champions Juniata for its final Landmark contest tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
